From the Autumn term, Doorstep Arts will be working in partnership with King Edward VI Community College (KEVICC) to take on and develop their Creative Dance programme, opening up more opportunities for children and young people to explore movement and creativity.
We’ve watched this programme grow over the years founded and created by Sarah McInally, incredible dance teacher at KEVICC and we’re really excited to be building on what is already there and welcoming both familiar faces and some new dancers into the group.
The programme is designed for children and young people aged 7–16, with weekly sessions taking place every Wednesday in the KEVICC Dance Studio, over an 11 week term.
The sessions are all about developing confidence, coordination and creativity through dance, with classes designed to be accessible to all abilities.
So, when is it?
Every Wednesday for an 11-week term
- Juniors (7–11 years)
4.15pm–5pm - Seniors (11–16 years)
5.15pm–6pm - KEVICC Dance Studio, Room 24
- £70 for the term
The first session is Wednesday 16 September.
We’re particularly excited about this partnership because it connects with a big part of what we already do at Doorstep, creating regular, accessible opportunities for young people to take part in the arts and find their own way into creativity.
We know that for lots of young people, having somewhere local, regular and welcoming to dance can make a huge difference. It’s not about being the best dancer in the room. It’s about having a go, finding your confidence, making friends, moving your body and having a space where you can be yourself.
And, as well as the new Creative Dance programme, we’re really pleased that this partnership connects with our work through the Torbay Arts in Schools Network (TASN).
At Doorstep, we lead TASN because we’re passionate about connecting schools, teachers, artists and arts organisations across Torbay and the wider area. We want to make it easier for young people and teaching staff to find out about creative opportunities both inside and outside of school and partnerships like this are a really important part of that.
We’re incredibly grateful to KEVICC for trusting us to take this programme forward and we’re really looking forward to seeing the dance studio filled with young people again this September.
