Work Experience

Hosting work experience students is a full team effort – all of us in the core team does a bit of hosting/mentoring, we try to provide a varied, active and informative week that gives a realistic sense of work in the industry.

Over the summer 2024 term, we had 12 work experiences students from schools across South Devon: KEVICC, Churston, Teignmouth, Paignton Academy, Torquay Academy & Spires. You can see photos and hear words directly from the work experience students here. More at the bottom of this page.

We have had such a high volume of Work Experience applications for 2025, that we have had to close the application form. All spaces are fully booked up.
Please check here again in September 2025, to apply for Work Experience with us in 2026.

We need to find out if working with Doorstep Arts is suitable for you, so we ask that you complete the following application form. FAQs – How can we help you as a Work Experience student?

 → How can I get a Work Experience Placement with Doorstep Arts?

You need to email Co-Director Jade Campbell: Jade@doorsteparts.co.uk, who will send you an application form to complete. The application form asks you questions about why you would like to attend and what experience you have already had. You do not need to have prior experience in the arts, but you just come with a can-do attitude and a willingness to give everything a go.

 → How do I get to the Doorstep office on my first day?

The address is:

4, Palace Av, Paignton TQ3 3HA

We are located in Room 4 above Axworthys.  You need to walk into the main doors as if you were going to enter the shop and directly in front of you is another glass door with a key-pad.  You will need to press the No4 and someone will come down to let you in.

 → What experience will I get from my placement with Doorstep Arts?

It really depends on what live projects we have during the week that time that you apply. You will be shadowing our regular participatory theatre groups, learning about arts administration, attending production meetings & supporting any rehearsals or events that we might have on & their will be other tasks. 

 → What should I wear?

It depends what activity you are doing.

If you are doing administrative tasks in the office, please come dressed in casual clothing.

If you are attending a theatre sessions such as our Doorstep Arts Studio Courses, or Saturday drama please wear loose comfortable clothing that you can move in as you will be expected to join in.

 → When will I receive my full schedule?

Approximately 2-4 weeks before your placement, we will send you a schedule with links to the address of the various venues (we work out of multiple sites across Torbay), the Lead Artists contact name and number and description of the task.
