On Monday 1st December our first DYT Rep Company performed their inaugural show – ‘The Devil is an Ass (in Torbay)’.
‘The Devil is an Ass’ was a comedy written by Ben Jonson, and first performed in 1616 in London by the King’s Men. This is not the same play.
This very first performance as an ensemble, an adaptation of Jonson’s play set in Torbay and inspired by their experiences of growing up in the South Devon area, was devised and performed by the company of talented 14-20 year olds. This comedic approach to a 400-year-old story brought audiences into the ‘bay, or at least a version of it as experienced by Pug, a junior Devil trying to prove his worth to Satan. But Pug, stepping into Torbay to wreak havoc, finds that the havoc has beaten him there…

Our ‘Roadmen’ had a proposal for Fritz and Pug.
