In November, a new production from Beyond Face, Sitting in the Grey, travelled to schools in Torbay to deliver an important message about racism, climate action and justice.
The production toured to St Cuthbert Mayne School, Paignton Academy (both sites_, Torquay Girls Grammar and Brixham College to audiences aged 11-15. Not only did the students have a thought provoking and moving experience watching the show, students at Paignton Academy and Torquay Girls Grammar had a special opportunity to interact with the cast and director during a bespoke workshop. The workshops were led by Beyond Face director, Alix Harris. The students had the opportunity to ask Alix and cast members questions about the show, why they made certain dramaturgical choices, and their own pathways into theatre. The workshop provided students with the opportunity to create response pieces in groups on the themes of climate action, racism and adults not listening to teenagers! As you can see below, the students particularly enjoyed embodying the role of the Tik-Toker!
The Sitting in the Grey tour to Torbay schools was part of the Inspiring Futures project at Doorstep Arts. Inspiring Futures addresses urgent questions around social justice, equity, amplifying voices and underrepresented stories. Stay tuned for more updates on our upcoming events as we continue to bring inspiring performances and workshops to our community!
