Practitioner Call-Out Workshop

Practitioner Call-Out Workshop

Monday 1 June

This is an upcoming opportunity both for established practitioners who want to make new connections and also for emerging practitioners who are just starting out.

This practical session is a chance to demonstrate your existing skills as a workshop leader, Teaching Artist and participatory creative facilitator, and potentially impress potential employers from a range of arts & education organisations.

The main focus of this callout for Teaching Artists or facilitators who can deliver drama/theatre participatory work with children & young people, but the event also welcomes dance or movement specialists and those who are multi-disciplinary practitioners (i.e. also musicians or visual artists or puppeteers or writers or film-makers or who may have other creative arts specialist areas). Those with an interest in inclusive practice or specialists in working with neurodiverse or disabled groups are warmly welcome.

What follows on from this? (I.e. what’s it useful for?)

If you are an emerging or entry-level practitioner, you will be able to grow your profile, access work experience opportunities and chances for paid entry-level employment in this sector following on from this event. It’s a chance to demonstrate your skills and build links to employers.

For those who are more established practitioners with more extensive experience, this will be an opportunity to expand your list of contacts, network, make connections with other regional practitioners/freelancers and discuss possibilities for training, sharing best practice & getting feedback.

When is it?

Monday 1 June 2026, 10am to 1pm

Where is it?

Roborough Studios, University of Exeter

What is it?

A range of Applied, participatory, outreach or educational arts organisations will come together for a special workshop session at the University of Exeter. In this 3-hour session, you will have a chance to demonstrate your drama facilitation skills in a supportive environment. Following on from this event, there will be potentials for possible future paid or internship opportunities by the organisations represented. This is a chance to get your foot in the door with a range of local arts-education or participation organisations who can offer you CV-building internships & paid employment as a freelance artist.

Which organisations will be attending?

Partner organisations are being confirmed and the list will be updated shortly. See images from the 2022 call-out day and the 2019 call-out day.

What will I have to do?

You will be asked to prepare 2 sample facilitation exercises in advance, and to arrive ready to lead at least one of them in the workshop. These 2 sample activities should be appropriate for children/young people and should plan to last about 10-15 mins in duration. All participating facilitators will engage and join in as the participants.

If you are successful in this first workshop demonstration, you may be asked to participate in a short follow-on interview (either in person or via telephone) with any of the specific organisations interested in offering you further opportunities.
