When our groups heard that the show Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was going to be staged at The Palace Theatre, it’s safe to say they didn’t want to miss out. For anyone who doesn’t know what this show is about, let’s break it down:
Based on a true story, a young teenager named Jamie New, from Sheffield, dreams of becoming a drag queen. Despite facing bullying, self-doubt, and resistance from some around him, Jamie finds the courage to embrace his true self, with the support of his loving mother and close friends. The show is a vibrant and uplifting musical that celebrates self-expression, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams against all odds.
Theatre Buddies had the joy of bringing a group of young people to witness this heartfelt musical production. It was a powerful reminder that theatre has a unique way of connecting people to stories that matter and opening doors to new perspectives. Seeing Jamie’s journey unfold on stage sparked meaningful conversations about confidence, self-belief and the importance of having a support network (and that can look differently for each and everyone of us).
And let’s not forget the fantastic performance that brought the story to life…….truly fab! It was exciting to see a stage full of young people completely owning this story, with sharp choreography and exceptional vocals. A huge thank you to TOADS for providing us with discounted tickets, and well done on such a successful show.
TOADS, along with TOPS, are Torbay’s local amateur dramatic theatre companies and a great starting point for young adults & adults interested in performing with larger casts. TOADS next show is Willy Wonka, to be performed at The Princess Theatre in Torquay, while TOPS will be performing Come From Away at the Palace Theatre. We are excited to support our local theatre companies.
