DAS Tuesday seniors took on an ambitious adapted version of Sweeney Todd this term, embracing its tricky score and storyline. DAS aged 14–20 worked together to build a solid ensemble piece and their commitment to the sharing was evident in every rehearsal and every choice they made. We are so proud of you all!
What made this group stand out was how many of them stepped far beyond performing. Several DAS took on responsibilities in costume, makeup, directing and stage leadership, shaping the world of the piece on and off stage. They also worked closely with our #MakeItHappen pilot programme, being mentored in sound and lighting and even helping to deliver the technical elements of the show. It was great to watch them develop confidence as emerging theatre makers, not just performers.
Providing opportunities for young people at this level means giving them the space to take ownership, lead and collaborate. We are incredibly proud of this group. Their focus, warmth to one another and commitment shone through their sharing. And now, we’re even more excited for our next large scale production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, with this fantastic group at the helm!
