To wrap up Dream Arts’ trip to Torbay, we held a workshop which allowed them and Doorstep Youth Theatre to get to know each other better and exchange practice – hosted at the fabulous Paignton Methodist Church Hall.
Both groups kicked off by sharing their favourite games with each other, before checking in on the Scratch and Share event, reflecting on what went well, and feeding back on each other’s pieces.
With each group in the midst of creating shows, suggestions were made, and questions were asked, with a view to feeding our returns to the rehearsal room to continue developing the work post-half term.
We then moved in to the second half of the session, where we shared insights on how we each work when creating work. Paul Cree and the Dream Arts group showed us how they create original music for their shows with their loop station and beatboxing, and many of the Doorstep Youth Theatre gang had a go on the Mic!
Helen and Doorstep Youth Theatre then shared an exercise which highlighted how we might start our devising process, using image work that then grew in to pieces that utilised Dream Arts’ music.
At the end of the session, we said goodbye, and the Dream Arts guys headed off for some fish and chips before beginning their journey back to London, with all of us looking ahead to the next opportunity to bring our two groups together!
