As part of their Torbay residential week, supported by Villages in Action, the Jamaal O’Driscoll Collective also visited White Rock Primary school to host a morning of break dance sessions with their year 3 classes.

Pupils learnt to let go of their inhibitions and dance however felt right to them, while also being given some of the technical skills that can build into a break dance performance! They were wowed by the balances, head spins, and leg work of the professional dancers, before being given a chance to try it all out themselves. From leg switches, to top rocks, the pupils loved being able to try these new skills.

Each session ended with a sharing circle, known as a cypher in the breaking community, where every child was given the opportunity to come into the centre and share some moves. Many shared those that they had just been taught, while some even showed off their own skills!
A huge thanks to Jamaal, Dan, Liana, and Halden for a great morning of sessions, and to the staff and students at White Rock Primary for hosting them and bringing their enthusiasm and skills.
