Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations

Well done to Little Doorstep (ages 3-6) and the Saturday Drama group (ages 6-16) for their performances today!

We’d also like to pass along our heartfelt thanks to the team at St Mary Magadalene Church in Torquay. We’ve been running our Saturday groups from St Mags church hall since Doorstep began in 2013. Over the last decade, it has been the perfect site for us in so many ways – central to town, a beautiful airy bright hall, use of the beautiful little stage, a convenient car park for families. We’ve been warmly welcomed by the church the entire time we’ve been here, and we’ve loved our time on site.

As our groups grow in size, we are needing to move to a bigger space which can accommodate the numbers, and so we’ll be moving to a new space on Saturdays in September. Today felt bittersweet to us – this little hall has played host to so many stories, characters, imaginative flights of fancy, songs, dances, games and laughter. We’ve loved watching so many children take to the stage here over the years… and both watching them grow up, and up up up in confidence, agency and courage.

We hope to be back to St Mags for other events too – touring theatre shows, workshops, and other Doorstep events.

Today’s Saturday sharings felt like the perfect way to say a fond goodbye to the space, and we hope that everyone who uses this hall in the future knows that it’s forever full of echoes of applause, butterflies of possibility and whispers of imagination forever! This is a space which has hosted so many children wondering ‘what if…?’ in so many drama workshops over the past 10 years. Many thanks St Mags, for being a safe space to dream, play pretend and make friends! Here’s to the next chapter!
