Merry Makers

On Sunday 14 December, the Doorstep Arts team hosted a family-friendly event in Paignton on Palace Avenue. This ‘Merry Makers’ event welcomed a range of families, children & young people, to come along and take part in craft events, eat food together, sing songs, and do a quiz.

Big thanks to Pip, Natasha and Rebekah from the Doorstep team who came along to help on the day. Pip is the most magical reindeer food magic-dispenser, Natasha is the best quiz-master compere, and Rebekah is the quiet superpower wizard who runs around making sure everything works smoothly, from projectors being hooked up at the right time, to making sure that we have quiz sheets, to tidying up whenever needed. They are a brilliant trio and they really brought the holiday festive magic on Sunday.

Huge thanks too to Jamie and Dave, who were incredible help in the kitchen all through the event. They got stuck in with teas, coffees, jacket potatoes, and dishing out the dad-humour on the day. We honestly couldn’t have done it without you two!

One of the best things about this event is hosting some sing-along karaoke as we craft and chat, and it was so fab to see the children & young people take to the stage with so much confidence. They were ALL so fabulous and we all loved getting a chance to hear them sing!

At this time of the year, gathering spaces like this feel particularly important. The Merry Makers event really brought us together, creating a space to celebrate, generate joy, eat and sing together, and to remember the stuff that really matters in the holiday season.

We’re so grateful to Sovereign Network Group for their funding support to make this special event possible, via their ‘Winter Wishes’ support scheme. Their generous support enabled us to make sure this event could be free for families to access, and allowed us to provide hot food, craft activities, and special gifts to disperse.

Joy, peace and goodwill to all of you – we send lots of love and light from the Doorstep team to all those of you in our community. We hope you have a restful and rejuvenating holiday season.
