Halloween – Doorstep Arts event on 31 October 2023 in Stage Left, Palace Theatre
Another year & another Halloween Doorstep Event accomplished with a big bang! We started these prior to Covid, to ensure families had a safe place to celebrate and come together for Halloween. These event’s are made possible with the incredible helping hands of the young people in our sessions. This year, Halloween landed on a Tuesday evening, which meant our Tuesday Seniors got to host the event for the juniors & seniors across all of our groups!
We had 14 wonderful DAS participants help set up the event & 3 Exeter university students set up the space, work out tech challenges, create fun activities for children & lead stalls for families on arrival.
This year we had an array of activities from traditional apple bobbing, designing pumpkin hanging decor, diamond art, witch hat throwing, pin the bow on the skeleton & the smile on the ghost, decipher the code & many more.
The seniors had the joy of getting involved in a group quiz to buff up on their knowledge of Halloween. The quiz was created by our fantastic team member Rebekah Daws, who always beautifully and professional gets jobs done, behind the scenes without wanting any acknowledge of all her hard work. But we want her to know, she is such a huge valued part of the Doorstep Team!!
We also held an open mic for the seniors in their session (after the quiz competition). This is always such a special moment for us to enable young adults to present scratch monologues, scenes and share songs that they are interested in. This Halloween we had multiple young people sing songs from Six The Musical, ‘Pulled’ from The Addams Family, ‘Almost There’ from The Princess & The Frog and a few songs from Mama Mia! We are always so incredibly proud of the seniors for sharing their talents & seeing the unconditional support they get from their peers!
Our Doorstep Team will continue to make these fun events for families in Torbay and we look forward to next years! A huge thank you to everyone who came along. Till next year!
