Growing Drama Opportunities for Young People in Torbay

We’re delighted to be growing our drama provision in the community, with two exciting projects made possible thanks to funding from Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAP) and the support of Annie Ashford-Barnden, CAP Regional Advisor for the South West of England.

At The Acorn Centre, Natasha has been working alongside young people on a very special Christmas performance. During weekly sessions, they’ve been developing their own script, exploring directing and taking the lead in bringing their ideas to life. We can’t wait to see them share their work on 16 December, spreading some festive cheer!

Meanwhile, after half term, we’re launching a new after-school drama club at Brixham College, creating a space for young people to explore their creativity, build confidence, make new connections and discover the magic of theatre.

Leading the club is Jade Campbell, Lead Artist and Co-Director of Doorstep Arts, who has a particularly special connection to the school, having attended Brixham College herself.

Jade shares: “I am so excited to go back to my secondary school that I attended when I was a young person. It feels really important to go back and offer up a provision that was offered to me when I was younger and share the love for drama that was nurtured when I was at Brixham College.”

We’re so grateful to CAP for helping us create more opportunities for young people to find their voices, take creative risks and experience the joy, friendship and possibilities that drama can bring.
