To round off the summer term, we had the absolute joy of being part of a wonderfully wacky Flashmob at the Parkfield Let’s Go Wild event on the 5th July, a special celebration in partnership with Life on the Edge and NDP Circus.
This was no ordinary dance piece. Created by guest artist Maria Tarokh from NPD Circus, the choreography was inspired by something unexpected… maggots! Yes, maggots and the fascinating transformation they go through. Maria worked with our Tuesday Juniors group to build a routine that was full of character, movement and infectious rhythm.
The soundtrack for the piece was specially created by Somin Somatic, a completely original, upbeat track made from insect sounds. The challenge? Create something catchy and fun that could be danced to by everyone from age 3 to 20. And they nailed it. The music was upbeat, wild, and totally brilliant.
From there, Maria’s choreography was rolled out across six groups, taught by our brilliant young people and performed by over 150 participants. The result was an eccentric, high-energy flashmob that filled the Parkfield green with movement, laughter and a new appreciation for the creatures living just under our feet.
This project was more than just a performance it was a celebration of nature and the power of young people working together. It gave everyone involved a chance to learn a little more about the insects in our local ecosystems and to think about what we can do to support them.
To Maria, Somin, all our participants and especially the young leaders who helped teach and inspire across the groups, thank you. You smashed it. This was a special moment and one we won’t forget.
