Practitioner Selection Day

Thursday 23rd May 2:00pm, Thornlea, University of Exeter
Price: Free to attend but booking is required

Are you interested in working with children & young people as an Applied practitioner or freelance artist, delivering drama workshops? This day is a chance to show your existing skills and impress potential employers from a range of arts & education organisations. If successful, you will be able to access internships, work experience opportunities and paid entry-level employment in this sector immediately following on from this event.

When is it?  Thursday 23 May, from 2-5pm.

Where is it?  TS2 in Thornlea, at the University of Exeter. Map link here.

What is it?

A range of Applied, participatory, outreach or educational arts organisations will come together for a special workshop session at the University of Exeter. In this 3-hour session, you will have a chance to demonstrate your drama facilitation skills in a supportive environment. Following on from this event, you will be given feedback on your facilitation practice and if successful, offered further paid or internship opportunities by the organisations represented. This is a chance to get your foot in the door with a range of local arts-education or participation organisations who can offer you CV-building internships & paid employment as a freelance artist.

What will I have to do?

You will be asked to prepare 4 sample facilitation exercises in advance, and to arrive ready to lead at least one of them in the workshop. These 4 sample activities should be appropriate for children/young people and they must include: a Warm Up Activity, a Focus Activity, a Main Body Activity and a Cool-down Game. Each section should be no longer than about 3 minutes to set up and all facilitators will play the participants (i.e. children/young people). If you are successful in this first workshop demonstration, you will asked to participate in a short follow-on interview (either in person or via telephone) with the specific organisations interested in offering you further opportunities.

How do I register to attend?

Places are limited, so early registration is recommended.
